Class Parents

Class parents play a crucial role in enhancing classroom communications between the teacher and parents. You’ll be the first to know about classroom happenings and get to know other parents in your child’s class.

You’ll always have the support of the class teacher and the P&C. Read the one page overview What is a MW Class Parent.

The Nomination Process

  • Selection is usually based on parents who self-nominate by expressing interest to the teacher or at the Teacher/Parent Information Evening.
  • Job Sharing: We encourage two parents per class to share the responsibilities and workload.
  • Timing: We aim to have representatives in place by the end of Week 3 or 4 of the first term.
  • Teacher Prerogative: In some cases, the teacher may personally approach a parent they feel would be a good fit for the role.

Selection Etiquette

  • If multiple parents volunteer, be open to a rotation or co-representative model. First-time volunteers should be given priority over parents who have already done the role in the past. This ensures everyone can have a turn.
  • Inclusivity: Use the time to welcome new families and get to know your fellow class families. The role is designed to build a sense of community.
  • Once a class parent is selected, they will be added to a wider school ‘Class Parent’ Whatsapp group. Please notify the school if you have been selected, and we will ensure you are added.
  • Privacy: Never share Class WhatsApp links on public channels such as Facebook pages.
